Pair of Edwardian pedestals; England, circa 1900.
Mahogany and mahogany palm.
Slight marks of use.
One of them has a key.
Measurements: 113 x 54 x 54,5 cm (x2).
Pair of English pedestals made in mahogany and mahogany palm, which have the same design. This is based on a sober finish of straight and refined lines, where the volumetry and solidity have a great presence. The base is finished with mouldings, which give way to the straight-lined shaft with marquetry that forms a groove on the front of each of the pedestals. This area is finished off with a fretwork or band with greater ornamentation, as on the front, although not on the sides, there is a design of vegetal motifs in the form of scrolls. Finally, the upper area ends in the form of a slope, with a flat, square-shaped body. It should be noted that Edwardian furniture was characterised by the use of an eclectic aesthetic that drew from various styles of antiquity, largely avoiding the rigidity of the Victorian aesthetic.
