Alfredo Álvarez, originally from Alava, graduated in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country in 1985. At first his work was defined by an aesthetic heir to expressionism, beginning to work on what he himself called "Equal Paintings", which represented images conceived as a puzzle, where one section could not be understood without the other, thus being works made up of a multitude of elements. However, in the 1990s, his work became linked to abstract trends. He began his exhibition career in 1985 and since then he has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions, some of which include, for example; ARCO 87, Galería Dieciséis, Madrid, Museo de Arte e Historia de Durango, Vizcaya, Spain, Dos Exposiciones Iguales, Galería Edurne, Galería Ángel Romero, Madrid, Spain, Galerie Grevgatan 18, Stockholm, Sweden, Kunstverein Erfurt, Germany, Identical Paintings, Museum Baden, Solingen, Germany and Plágaro, Artium, Centro-Museo Vasco de Arte Contemporáneo, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain among many others.
