Signed and dated on the left side.
Measurements: 65 x 50 cm; 89 x 72 cm (frame).
Art critic, writer and painter, Josep Maria de Sucre held his first individual exhibition in October 1928, in the Dalmau Galleries, and that same year he took part in an exhibition of abstract art which caused a great scandal, being closed on the second day. After the Civil War, Sucre was driven into poverty, although he gradually recovered his contacts and activities. In 1948 the first Salón de Octubre was held, in which the artist played an important organisational role. Two years later, on the occasion of his presence at the Cercle Maillol of the Institut Français in Barcelona, conferences, screenings and art exhibitions were held. In 1962 he was awarded the Juan Gris Prize for his pictorial career, and in 1964 a book of his memoirs was published. Sucre is currently represented in the MACBA in Barcelona and the Gargallo Museum in Zaragoza, as well as in other public and private collections.
