Leonardo Nierman is a Mexican artist known mainly for his painting and sculptural production. He started a career as a violinist, but abandoned it after twenty years. However, his musical training has been a major influence throughout his career as a visual artist, reproducing movement and harmony, qualities that the artist finds in both disciplines. He began his painting career when he convinced the dean of the business school to paint a mural in the faculty auditorium in 1956. Nierman had been painting for some time when Raquel Tibol invited him to exhibit his work at the Israeli Sports Centre in Mexico City. Since then, he has had more than 100 exhibitions in the Americas, Asia, Australia and Europe. Recent exhibitions include the Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila in 2000, the International Museum of Art and Science in Mcallen, Texas in 2009, the MACAY museum in Mérida in 2012, the Museo Francisco Cossío in San Luis Potosí in 2012, and the art gallery of the Complejo Cultural Universitario in the city of Puebla in 2012.His work follows an abstract line in which sometimes images of nature such as birds, water, etc. are fused. He uses pure colours while in his paintings, while his sculptures are generally made of metal, often in silver tones. His work can be found in museums and public buildings in Australia, Austria, Colombia, Costa Rica, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Monaco, Panama, Spain, Sweden, Thailand and the United States. These include the Vatican Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City, the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, the Gallery of Modern Art in New York and the Phoenix Art Museum.
