Chest of drawers; France, Napoleon III period, late 19th century.
Walnut wood with marquetry decoration with rosewood and lemongrass. Bronze fittings and marble top.
It presents faults in the marquetry.
Measurements: 86 x 70 x 41 cm.
Chest of drawers made in walnut wood with two registers with the same design. The front has two large drawers, decorated with marquetry and gilded bronze applications for the handles and ornamentation. Standing on four legs, the lower edge of the front has a cut-out decoration of curves contrasted with counter-curves and protrusions. The sides also follow this design, albeit in a more restrained manner. The upper panel, straight, once again repeats the curves on the front, unlike the sides of the structure, which are straight. The furniture has a movement in its fronts and in the lower areas that reminds us of examples of the same origin, but in the Rococo style of the 18th century. It should be noted that the protagonist of the piece of furniture is the wood, and that with the aim of highlighting its natural grain and colouring, the use of marquetry and appliqués has been relatively reduced.
