Needs cleaning.
Frame with some lack.
Size: 25 x 60 cm; 65 x 100 cm (frame).
In this group portrait, each of the costumbrista types have been connoted with individualised personalities. Psychological depth and meticulous verism characterised Graner's portrait painting, one of the genres in which the painter excelled.
The sitters appear in the foreground against a neutral background that highlights the figures.
Trained at the La Lonja School in Barcelona, he completed his studies in Paris, receiving a scholarship from the Diputació de Catalunya in 1886. During these years he won third medals at the Universal Exhibitions in Barcelona (1888) and Paris (1889). He moved back to Barcelona in 1891 and held several exhibitions there and in other Spanish and European cities such as Madrid, Paris, Munich and Düsseldorf. In 1904 he began a project that was intended to be a synthesis of all the arts, and he devoted himself to organising musical visions, shows that combined poetry, music, cinema and scenography. Prominent names from various disciplines worked with him on this project, such as Antoni Gaudí, the filmmaker Segundo de Chomon, the poet Jacinto Verdaguer and the musician Joan Lambert. When his period of performances and auditions came to an end, he left for America, where he returned to painting. He lived and exhibited his work in Havana, São Paulo, Montevideo, San Francisco and New York. He returned to Barcelona in 1929. He is represented in the MACBA, the Thyssen-Bornemisza and the Balaguer de Vilanova i la Geltrú, among other Spanish and international museums, as well as in important private Catalan collections.
