"The Fall during Calvary".

It presents slight repainting and restorations.
Measurements: 117 x 100 cm.
Work that aesthetically follows the Italian models, whose influence reached the Spanish painting. It represents here the fall of Jesus in the way to the Calvary mount. In the centre of the image, the figure of Christ, fallen and holding the cross, is helped by his mother who extends her arms towards him. On the left side of the scene, however, the soldiers leading Christ's way to Golgotha are pulling him with ropes, oblivious to Christ's suffering. The scene, which has been created in depth, gathers most of the characters in the lower part of the scene, while the upper part is left open to the landscape, so that the artist achieves a visual balance that stabilises all the dynamism of the lower part of the image.
Exhausted by the blood lost in the scourging, weakened by the physical and moral suffering inflicted on him the previous night, and without having slept, Jesus was barely able to take a few steps and soon fell under the weight of the cross. Then followed the blows and imprecations of the soldiers, the expectant laughter of the crowd. The Messiah, with all the strength of his will and with all his might, managed to get up and continue on his way. According to theological interpretations, Jesus invites us by his actions to carry our cross and to follow him, he teaches us here that we too can fall, and that we must understand those who fall; that none of us must remain prostrate, we must all get up with humility and trust, seeking his help and forgiveness.
