ENRIQUE FLORIDO BERNILS (Malaga, 1873 - 1929).

Measurements: 53 x 99 cm; 67 x 114 cm (frame).
Florido developed a brilliant style, especially in the execution of seascapes, centred on the expression of the atmospheric, light and chromatic values, changing according to the time of the day and the season of the year. In this canvas he offers us a wide panoramic view of the coast of the city of Malaga at the end of the 19th century, with the sky and the sea spreading their rich shades of blue and indigo. The faint breeze that makes the light ripple over the surface of the sea can be glimpsed. The sailboats resting on the calm waters contribute to the lyrical intensity of the painting.
Enrique Florido studied art at the Malaga School of Fine Arts, specialising in maritime themes, although he also cultivated other genres such as landscape, portraiture and composition. Throughout his career he held various exhibitions and took part in artistic competitions and contests, particularly noteworthy being his participation in the Cadiz Maritime Exhibition of 1887, where his painting entitled "El puerto de Málaga y un buque en carena" ("The Port of Malaga and a Ship in Tackle") won him a second-class medal. He also exhibited at the one organised by the Liceo Artístico in 1889. His works include "Playas de Pedregalejos" ("Beaches of Pedregalejos").
