Flemish school, workshop of FRANS SNYDERS (Antwerp, 1579 - 1657), 17th century.
"Pair of hunting scenes".
Oil on copper.
Both contain the monogram "GDR".
Frame of the XVIIIth century.
Measurements: 24 x 17,5 cm; 35 x 28,5 cm (frame).
Frans Snyders or Snijders was a Flemish painter, pupil of Pieter Bruegel the Younger and Hendrick van Balen, specialised in still life and animal painting. In 1610 he joined the important workshop of Rubens.
His production is mainly composed of still lifes and hunting scenes in which, in addition to the descriptive tendency, dynamism was present through the work and compositional arrangement of each of the animals and figures depicted.
After cleaning and conservation work, these paintings date from the first half of the 17th century, when the Snyders workshop was in operation. Moreover, the scenes are full of that dynamism so dear to the master: the dogs jump, depending on the composition, over the deer or the wolf, some fall, some arrive, others, wounded, lie on the ground grimacing in pain. The bright red of the blood and the colour of the dogs' fur stand out in the scene surrounded by the dark green of the forest.
