JEAN MARC CALVET (Nice, 1965)."A simple love story", 2005.Mixed media (oil and acrylic) on canvas.
"A simple love story", 2005.
Mixed media (oil and acrylic) on canvas.
Signed, dated and dedicated on the back.
Size: 150 x 170 cm.
In this work the artist resorts to an aesthetic inspired by the pop art movement, defined by the use of vibrant colours and elements that appeal to mass culture such as the aeroplane. An aesthetic defined as a completely personal pop art movement, as he normally introduces his own iconography in his works, which is described through the violent strokes and schematic figurations, which in a certain way border on the naïve. Noise and fury combine boldly in an intense work, in which cold colours such as blue and black are contrasted by the presence of yellows and reds that are superimposed as fleeting and expressive dots.
Jean Marc Calvet is a French artist who lives in Granada, Nicaragua. He began his artistic career at a late age, but this fact has not detracted from the relevance of his professional career, which includes a large number of exhibitions, both collective and individual, held internationally, among which the following stand out; "Between You and Me", MZ Urban Art, New York (2015), Galerie Jane Griffiths, Val d'Isère, France, (2014), "Invasion invasion l'invasion" MDC's historic Freedom Tower, Miami (2010), Jean-Marc Calvet", Codice Gallery, Managua, Nicaragua (2009), "Los Locos También Van Al Cielo", Paseo de Arte Gallery, Granada, Nicaragua (2004) "Fusion", Casa Cultural Gallery, Guatemala (2003) and "Tornado", Casa Instalación, San José, Costa Rica (2003). Calvet was one of the six winners of the VII Bienal de Artes de Nicaragua in 2009 selected to represent Nicaragua in the Central American Biennial in Panama in 2010.Marc Calvet has described his work in this way: "I paint out of necessity, without thinking, some form of liberated automatism. I allow my unconscious mind to guide my hand. I cultivate my obsessions by making use of my demons and my ghosts to draw creative energy from them. An artist is first and foremost an antenna, an emotional receiver that opens a passage to different worlds. Each character in my paintings is full of stories and creatures, giving life to a constant movement of death, love, sex, life to put it simply. We are all made of details. Our life is built by them and in their absence we would not exist. We would become transparent. On the surface, we are just words, expressions, inside we are colours".
