A consolidated artist in the international art market, Josep Puigmarti focuses his work on the surrealist language. Considered one of the most prolific artists of the European plastic arts in the second half of the 20th century, the Catalan artist works a transgressive and original work derived from his travels around the world: Paris, California, Sweden, Denmark or Japan have been the cities that have seen his technique evolve, as well as the conception of his works. During the 60s, 70s and 80s, Puigmartí introduced in his surrealist paintings a whole iconography of an erotic nature that earned him the consideration of a transgressive artist who practised a provocative style, according to the artist himself on his website, "Nowadays I lead a life of routines, unlike before. Now I like being here, by the Mediterranean, getting up early - I have never liked the night and its ghosts -, exercising and shutting myself up in my studio where new works emerge without having thought of them beforehand. I draw, I make compositions with objects, I work and work and work. In life there is little point in thinking if you don't get down to work. You have to do things, never stop doing". Puigmartí's work can currently be found at the Hotel del Arte in Sitges, where he has lived since 1989.
