Venetian-Cretan school, XVII century. "The Adoration of the Magi". Oil on panel. Engatillada. The frame follows ancient models. It presents faults and flaws. Size: 65 x 80 cm; 86 x 103 cm (frame). The biblical episode of the Adoration of the Magi is loaded in this representation of a great plastic refinement. The influence of Veronese can be appreciated in it, being framed in the confluence between the Venetian school and the Greek tradition of icon painting. Under a sky crossed by pink clouds that announce the twilight, the visit of the three Kings of the East to the Child Jesus is narrated. Wrapped in sumptuous costumes and accompanied by exotic servants, they carry their offerings in chests and jars of gold. Headed with satin turbans, they wear silk robes. The soft velvety colors harmonize with a careful drawing that enhances the fineness of the features and the nobility of the gestures. Mary takes the Child on her lap and brings him close to a Melchior with a long white beard, who is showing him the gold contained in his cup. St. Joseph remains in the background, as is usual in depictions of the Holy Family. The porcelain whiteness of the Virgin and Child contrasts with the dark flesh tones of the visitors. The vegetation has been depicted with the same care as the characters. The palette has been richly contrasted in its bright colors and tonal shifts.

INSURANCE INCIDENTS: Coverage for the value of the auction up to 3000 ? per shipment, if the value of the auction is higher, Setdart will send you a quote including the additional insurance.
