Description
Pair of vases. Murano, second half of the 20th century.
Blown Murano glass.
No signature.
Provenance: Private collection, Spain between 1970-1990.
Measurements: 17 x 9 cm (each).
This pair of blown vases with handles has a marbled decoration in shades of blue and red that do not blend together. Murano's reputation as a glass-making centre was born when the Republic of Venice, fearing fires and the destruction of the city's wooden buildings, ordered the glassmakers to move their foundries to Murano in 1291. Murano glass is still associated with Venetian glass.
