RAFFAELE TAFURI (Italy, 1857 - 1929).
"Landscape.
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner.

Measurements: 41 x 53 cm; 51 x 63 cm (frame).
Born in Salerno, although he developed his career in Venice, Raffaele Tafuri was a painter specialised in landscape, although he also tackled figure subjects, always with a personal language of romantic and academicist heritage, which incorporated the influence of his masters, showing himself to be heir of the Neapolitan and Venetian traditions. His brilliant palette is particularly evident in his watercolours, a medium he used for the design of postcards. Many of his chromolithographic prints depict loosely executed Venetian scenes, although he also produced Christmas cards that show a strong Art Nouveau influence. Throughout his career Tafuri made himself known through solo exhibitions and official competitions, the most important of which was held at the Pesaro gallery in Milan in 1918. He also took part in the Venice International Art Exhibitions of 1895, 1905, 1907, 1909, 1910 and 1914.
