Extremely fine cased French Republic presentation 50 bore (.450) percussion duelling pistols by Geerinckx of Paris, the octagonal barrels fluted along the angles and rifled, foliate scroll engraved breeches, the tangs each with blued rear sights, the lock plates, hammers and mountings are elaborately inlaid in heavy raided gold scrolls and floral design in two tones of gold. The barrels are marked on the top 'Geerinckx suc'r de Gauvain a Paris'. The ebony stocks are carved all over in a double triangle design and have ornate two tone gold-mounted pommels and spur trigger guards. The guns are in unfired condition as are the accessories of ebony cleaning rod, ebony ramrod, ebony loading mallet, ebony turn-screw, steel powder measure, steel bullet mould, gold inlaid, 3 round ebony caps and accessory boxes. The case is of rosewood and lined with purple velvet. The inside lining of the top is decorated in large gold design and lettering that reads 'Maison Gauvain Geerinckx arquebusier Fournisseur de Ministere des Affaires Estranger a Paris'. Top of the case is outlined in two gold inlaid lines and an elaborate gold plaque in the centre is engraved in French which translated reads 'Presented by the government of the French Republic to Colonel. H.T. Siborne, Delegate of his Britannic Majesty to the European Commission of the Danube January 1879'. In its outer green leather carrying case. The French government wanted to decorate Col. Siborne for his services, but since the etiquette of the service required permission from the British government, and there would be a delay, the pair of pistols were awarded instead. The pistols have 26cm barrels, 42cm overall. The case is 46cm x 28cm x 8cmSold with typewritten 'Statutory Declaration' hand-dated 10th December 1926, hand signed by W. H. Siborne, son of the Colonel, and by the Commissioner of Alberta, Canada, detailing the military provenance of the pistols and their recipient, list of contents, inheritance by Col. Siborne's son, and their sale to a Mr Henry Brace of Edmonton, Alberta in October 1926

We are happy to pack and send small items such as single items of jewellery and medals via Royal Mail (padded A4 envelope size only). Packing for this will be £5 + VAT and then what Royal Mail charges us to send the item to you.

Please allow 5 working days after requesting P&P for your parcel to be ready.

All goods must be paid for before removal of items 

All goods to be removed within seven days of the sale, or are subject to a £2.00 +VAT per lot, per day storage charge.  Please note that collections are by appointment only if you do not have an appointment you might not be able to collect your items.

All goods are the responsibility of the buyer once they have been paid for, even if they remain on the premises. If goods have not been collected after three weeks they may be resold to claim back any storage fees incurred.

All bidders should satisfy themselves with the condition and contents of lots before bidding 

Cars are parked at owners risk, and viewing is carried out at own risk. 

All breakages must be paid for 

We will happily accept commission and phone bids, however we cannot be held responsible for missed/wrong bids – if there is a problem the auctioneers decision is final 

If leaving commission bids, it is your responsibility to contact us within 3 days to find out if you were successful 

Each lot shall be the buyer’s sole risk from the fall of the hammer and shall be sold with any faults and imperfections, the auctioneers NOT being responsible for the correct description or authenticity of any lot, and making no warranty whatsoever. The buyer is deemed to have inspected the lots and satisfied him or herself as to their condition and authenticity.

Payment is accepted in the form of cash, debit and credit card, Any invoices that are requested to be paid over the phone and are above £500.00 must be made via bank transefer.
