Reg. no. LWA 253
Chassis no. BS1-26150
Engine no. 1B-31031
Introduced in the spring of 1945, the Austin Sixteen was outwardly identical to the 12hp side valve-engined model that had appeared immediately before the outbreak of WWII in 1939, but enjoyed the significant advantage of a larger (2,199cc) overhead-valve engine. Unlike the contemporary 8 hp and 10 hp Austins, the 12/16 did not have a welded-in steel floor pan, and thus was less rust-prone. The Sixteen would prove considerably more successful than its 12 hp sibling, outselling it four to one before production ceased in 1949. This example is part of a private collection of cars that were collected and enjoyed over a number of years by gentleman who clearly loved his Austins, of which he had four. The car will require some re-commissioning following a period of no use and it is now offered for sale with a V5c, an older style logbook, several old MOTs, several early tax discs and a green continuation logbook. The paint has a lovely mellowed feel and the brown leather interior is certainly original, making this a very attractive proposition indeed.
