1938 Austin 12/4 Ascot Saloon
Reg. no. FHT 991
Chassis no. HRA63853
Engine no. Unknown

Austin introduced this new car in September 1932. It was made by fitting a 1,535 cc side-valve, four-cylinder engine with 24 bhp output into the same chassis as they had been making since late 1930 for their six-cylinder 12/6 which was also in the same 12 hp class. This new four cylinder engine was coupled to a four-speed "crash" gearbox at first, but a new transmission with synchromesh on third and top speed appeared in 1934 and then also on second in 1935.This car is part of a private collection, consisting of mostly cars of a similar age. Their owner clearly admired this era of motoring and their usability. Indeed for many years this car was used for some weddings. The car is presented in very useable condition and may only require light re-commissioning following a period off the road since its last MOT in 2012. In the file is a letter from Henlys of Bristol (distributers of Austins), confirming that they supplied the car new to a Mr E. MacDonald in Bristol. There is also a V5c, an older V5 and various old MOTs.
