1970 Ford Escort Mk. I Estate
Reg. no. HTW 96H
Chassis no. BB43KS21786
Engine no. MS3105

The Mark I Ford Escort was introduced at the end of 1967, replacing the successful long running Anglia. By June 1974, after just six years of production, Ford announced the completion of the 2,000,000th Escort. Initially the Escort was sold as a 2-door saloon, but in March 1968 a 2-door estate was added to the range. With the back seat folded down, it provided an impressive 40% increase in maximum load space over the old Anglia estate. The estate featured the same engine options as the saloon, but it also included a larger clutch, stiffer rear springs and slightly larger brake drums. This Estate has been restored to ‘Mexico’ specification and is powered by a 1,600 cc crossflow engine, coupled to a back axle containing a 3.89 ratio differential. During the last eight years, the car has had new steel front wings, front panel and floor; in addition any welding that was required, was carried out prior to the re-spray. ‘1600’ sport front suspension and steering rack was fitted and new bearings, new brake pipes and new rear springs were fitted. The crossflow engine was rebuilt to GT specification with a new carburettor , a new flywheel, a new clutch and electronic ignition. This great looking vehicle was built to be an everyday classic, but sadly has not been getting the use the vendor hoped. It now requires a new custodian to benefit from all the expensive work carried out. It is offered here with a V5c, a selection of bills and a current MOT.
