Description
A 19th Century rosewood and marquetry inlaid cased eight air musical box, the movement by Paillard Vaucher Fils of St. Croix Switzerland, engraved with initials (x2) "P.V.F." to the mandolin expressive zither bar, No'd. "2018", 57.5 cm wide x 23 cm deep x 15 cm high
CONDITION REPORTS
Case basically sound though with crack to the centre left of the top of the lid, approx 6 cm from edge towards centre. Otherwise lid has signs of wear and tear conducive with age and use. One area of stringing to the centre band left rear appears to have been replaced. There are areas of stringing to the front missing and some signs of scratching / wear to the simulated rosewood painting. Interior appears basically sound though may have had some re-painting / lacquering in some areas. The ebonising to the frame of the glass panel appears particularly fresh. The movement appears to be basically sound with no broken or missing teeth. Zither action appears to be work fine. See images for further detail.
