* JOHN MACKIE (SCOTTISH b. 1953), FISH SUPPER
pastel on paper, signed and dated '89
framed and under glass
image size 24cm x 34cm, overall size 37cm x 47cm
Note: John Mackie was born in Glasgow in 1953. John studied at Glasgow School of Art between 1972-76. It was there that he was first introduced to the works of Monet, Renoir and Pissarro. In particular the influence of Monet can be seen in his own painting style and his is an obvious love of impressionist work. After a travelling scholarship in America and Canada, he lived and painted in Italy and France where he was inspired by the landscape and cities around Tuscany, Umbria and Chianti. In France, he spent time in Paris where he discovered the wealth of material in the everyday scenes around café’s and bistros, especially around the districts beside Place du Tetre and the Champs Elysees. However, as with many others, it was in Languedoc in the South of France where John Mackie felt his greatest pull. His attraction to the cities of Terrasson, Montpeleier, Bezier and Narbonne still feature prominently in his artistic output today. John has exhibited widely in various galleries across the UK and in over 30 years has built a considerable body of collectors. He has exhibited successfully at The Royal Scottish Academy and also internationally in the USA, Germany, London, Ireland and elsewhere.
