Circle of Pieter Paul Rubens (Siegen 1577 - Antwerp 1640) from the 17th centuryReturn from the flight to EgyptOil on copper65 x 50 cmThe artwork is inspired, with obvious and substantial variations, by the famous work, now believed to be a workshop, commissioned in 1620 by Nicolas Rockox, mayor of Antwerp, for the chapel dedicated to St. Joseph in the Jesuit church in Antwerp. The artwork is known above all thanks to the many versions of students and followers, and also because it was engraved by Lucas Vorsterman I.
