Large gilded, engraved and embossed copper medallion decorated with champlevé enamel. Limoges. France. Circa 1200.In the centre of the medallion Jesus gives blessing, holding the Holy Scriptures in the left hand. He has a halo. There is magnificent lapis lazuli blue champlevé enamel decoration on the background, red, white, green and turquoise for four flowers, turquoise for the halo and outlining the edge are two circles, one turquoise and one red. The medallion may come from a chest or processional cross. Two similar medallions are to be found in the collections at the New York Metropolitan Museum registered under the number 17.190.692.Diameter: 7 cm.
