Oil on canvas. Relined.
Italian painter, student of José de Ribera and active in Naples. From a family of artists, his father was the painter Alessandro Fracanzano, he moved to Naples in 1622, to work in José de Ribera´s workshop.
One of his masterpieces is the two canvases of the History of the Life of Saint Gregory of Armenia, painted in1635 for the Neapolitan church of the same name. His work can be seen in the Prado, the Capodimonte Museum in Naples, the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna etc.
Both this painting and the next one appear in a book that is about to be published by Dr. della Ragione, an expert in Neapolitan painting of the 17th and 18th centuries.
Origin: A private collection, Rome.
