Cabinet with carved polychrome and gilt wooden stretcher legs. Plateresque. Early 16th century.
Spectacular example of Spanish Plateresque art, which has arrived to our times in an impeccable state of preservation. Having an architectural structure, the front of the upper chest is formed by pilasters topped off with ledges which frame three doors and ten drawers which are decorated all over in high relief. The cornice and the four upper drawers depict angels´ heads joined by garlands of flowers and fruit or drapery. The motif on the central door is the resurrection of Christ, framed by a structure which is topped by two angel heads. Saint Peter and Saint Paul decorate both the side doors. The six remaining drawers have decorations representing angels offering fruit or carrying drapery.
The sides are also made with pilasters topped off with a cornice decorated with an angel head and a garland of fruit. Between the pilasters are two soffits sculpted with folded drapery, framed by a moulding and with a Sgraffito background. It has the original ironwork and handles made of wrought iron. Medidas bargueño: 106 x 160 x 52 cm.
Leg measurements: 87 x 149 x 62 cm.
