Italian school, mid 16th century.
"Adoration of the shepherds"
Oil on copper.
A night-time scene depicting Mary in the centre contemplating the Jesus Child who is sleeping in the manger. On both sides the shepherds (among them a fruit-carrying woman) adore and observe the newborn, whilst Joseph drives the ox and the mule to the stall. In the background is a landscape with ruined classical buildings.
44 x 35 cm.
Origin: Formerly from a collection belonging to Antoni Batlló "El Conventet", Barcelona.
