Processional cross made of wood covered with embossed and engraved gilded copper. Italy. 16th century.
The front of the cross has a crucified Christ in the centre. At the end of each arm are the figures of the Virgin Mary and Saint John the Evangelist. At the top is the dove of the Holy Ghost and below Christ’s feet is Mary Magdalene.
On the back there is an image considered to be of the Virgin Mary Coredemptrix in the centre. In the four ends appear the four apostles (Tetramorph).
The entire surface is decorated profusely. The front and back are very delicately decorated with angel heads and flowers and the sides with vines and vine leaves.
Faults.
44 x 37 cm.
