Portable desk decorated with Pasto varnish. Colombia. End of 17th century.
Magnificent box desk. It has a lid on top which opens to reveal some compartments and another which folds down from the front to show six drawers. There is profuse decoration in the entire interior and on the back of the exterior, with flowers, birds, boar etc. The exterior is lacquered in red with golden flowers. It has been wonderfully preserved. A similar example can be found in The Hispanic Society of America collection.
