Description
Imposing wrought iron brasier. Romanesque. 13th century.
The base, formed with three straight legs and a hoop, holds the body of the brazier. The spiral decoration is a common element used in the ornamentation of screens and metal objects of the Romanesque period, as can be seen among the rare examples that have been preserved, for example, the metal grill at the Santa María del Camino Church or those kept in the Jaca Diocesan Museum (Huesca). What makes this object so special is its antiquity and the fact that it was for every day use (not religious or military), as currently fewer Romanesque braziers have been preserved than screens or grills. Other examples can be found in the Tarragona Diocesan Museum and in the Castile Council buildings, etc.
41 x 36 x 60 cm.
