Lacquered wooden chest with wrought iron metalwork. Periban. Michoacan, Mexico. 17th century.
The exterior is covered in ornamentation on each side. The decoration of superimposed circles with flowers inside bordered with a garland with plant motifs is reminiscent of the Indo Portuguese geometric designs, meaning that it has oriental influences.
The inside of the lid is decorated with a medallion, within which is a vase with flowers and on both sides there are branches with flowers, leaves and birds. 67.5 x 114 x 49.5 cm.
