Spanish or Italian school, 16th century.
"Madonna"
Oil on canvas. Relined.
The Virgin Mary’s head and shoulders are depicted facing forward and slightly to one side. Her head is covered with a blue cape which, trimmed with embroidery, is cinched with a worked metal brooch in the shape of an angel.
The sweetness of the virgin’s expression is outstanding.
The painting is in its original period frame, made of carved, patinated and gilded wood. The decoration on the frame is a later addition.
