"Portrait of a gentleman"
Oil on canvas. Signed and dated in 1765.
Flemish painter. According to the RKD, he was born in Dusseldorf, when his father, Herman van der Mijn, moved there to work with Johann Wilhelm. James Latham´s painting influenced his style. From 1742-1748 he worked in Amsterdam and The Hague, before installing himself in London as a portrait painter. From 1761-1772, he sent a painting to the "London Society of Artists" each year. His work can be seen in the Rijksmuseum as well as other galleries.
