"Lamentation over the Dead Christ." Important carved wooden sculpture with slight traces of polychrome. Spanish School with German influence. 16th Century.
The composition focuses on the inert body of Christ, supported by his mother, the Virgin, who appears clothed by St. John the Evangelist. Surrounded propably we find Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus holding the canvas to wrap the body of Christ, and carrying in his hand the nails of the cross. On the far left, kneeling, Mary Magdalene.
Each figure shows how expressive, his suffering at the death of Christ.
