"Saint Michael Archangel". Polychrome, gilt and silvered walnut wooden sculpture. Spanish school. From around 1560.
Impressive sculpture. The saint is dressed as a warrior, with a tunic and a large cape knotted over his left shoulder, he is standing on the devil. The sculpture retains the original attributes of the epoch – the sword to beat his enemy and the scales, a symbol of justice, balance and order. The quality of the carving is outstanding, giving great movement and a spectacular nature to the group. Delicate polychrome on the face.
