"Saint Peter and Saint John the Baptist". Pair of carved polychrome and gilt reliefs. 17th century.
Saint Peter is holding his symbol, the keys, in his right hand and the book of the Holy Scriptures in the other. He is wearing a tunic and cape.
Saint John the Baptist is depicted with bare feet, with long, curly hair and wearing a torn smock, as befitting his hermetic condition. On one side is his symbol, the lamb. The cross that he was carrying in his left hand is missing.
The sculptor has achieved great expression and naturalness in the faces of both reliefs.
93 x 46.5 cm. and 94.5 x 46.5 cm.
