" The Virgin in Seat of Wisdom (Sedes Sapientiae)". Polychrome resinous wood carving in blue, red, black and gold. Castilla. Romanesque. Late 12th century.
Mary is depicted in a frontal position, crowned and seated on the throne of majesty, holding the Christ child, who is also crowned, on her knees. The Madonna and the child’s faces are finely sculpted, and are wearing a severe expression. The eyes and eyebrows are emphasised in black.
Delicate work on the robes. Mary’s right hand is missing.
Height: 74 cm.
