" The Virgin in Seat of Wisdom (Sede Sapientiae)". Polychrome wooden carving, predominantly in red, blue and gold. Catalan Gothic. Late 14th century.
Mary is seated on a bench decorated with geometric motifs. She is holding the Christ child who is seated on her lap. She is wearing a veil on her head and the suggestion of a pretty smile. She is wearing a dress adorned with a necklace which falls over her chest and her shoulders are covered with a large, blue cloak which falls to the floor forming light folds. On the back is the collection label. The Madonna’s right hand is missing and so are both of the child’s hands.
Height: 66 cm.
