" The Virgin in Seat of Wisdom (Sedes Sapientiae)". Polychrome carved wooden sculpture in predominantly red, blue, white and golden tones. Possibly Castilian. Late 13th century. The Virgin Mary is seated and holding the Christ child on her lap, in a frontal position. The necklines of the cloaks and dresses are decorated with trompe l´oeil precious stones.
Mary wears a veil and a wrought iron crown, which was possibly made earlier. Her right hand was added later and her left hand and Christ’s right hand are missing
