Cardan....claimed to be able to draw horoscopes from the appearance of the face. (Garrison-M. 152). Die Metoposkopie ist die Kunst, aus den Linien der Stirn zu lesen. Nach der Metoposcopia (1658) von Cardanus entsprachen bestimmte Stirnfalten den Planeten (Sonne, Mond, Merkur, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn), die wiederum Einfluss auf das Temperament und das Schicksal haben. Auch bestimmte Formen der Stirnfalten konnten Bedeutung haben. - Nur minimal fleckig bzw. gebräunt. - Contains 800 illustrations of the human face. Cardan....claimed to be able to draw horoscopes from the appearance of the face. (Garrison-M. 152). - First illustrated french edition. - Metoposcopy is the interpretation of facial wrinkles, especially those on the forehead, to determine the character of a person. It is also used as a type of divination and has been used in conjunction with astrology. This pseudoscience was invented by the great 16th century mathematician, physician, and astrologer Girolamo Cardano (1501-1576). Legend has it that Cardano starved himself to death at the age of seventy-five rather than live and run the risk of falsifying his horoscope and thereby discredit his beloved astrology. (Vgl. Caroll, Skeptics Dictionary). - Only minimally stained or browned.
