A large-scale Chinese Imperial cloisonne altar set
Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period, 18th century, Canton, the censer with incised six-character Qianlong mark to plaque on body, each elaborately cloisonne enameled with geometric and foliate motifs on a turquoise ground, the censer surmounted by a gilt-bronze foo dog, the pierced stepped rectangular lid over a waisted curving rectangular body flanked by S-form handles, raised on scrolled feet atop a stepped rectangular silver wire-inlaid carved hardwood plinth, the garniture comprising two squared gu vases further adorned with squared flanges and two conforming squared candlesticks, with three additional matching carved hardwood plinths, 9 pieces, each without plinth: the censer: 25.5'' H x 16.125'' W x 9.625'' D; each candlestick: 22.375'' H x 8.75'' W x 8.75'' D; each vase: 22'' H x 9'' W x 9'' D, est: $100,000/150,000 Note: All bidders wishing to participate in this auction session must submit a $9,000.00 USD deposit via wire transfer, cash, or cashier's check prior to the auction. Censer with an approximately 1'' x .5'' area of chipped loss to one side. Censer, one vase and two hardwood bases each with a .25''-diameter hole drilled through bottom for wiring; one vase with two .25''-diameter drilled holes. One plinth deficient.
