1016 A patinated bronze, `Memorial Plaque`, H. Chapu Circa 1875, signed `H. Chapu` (Henri-Michel-Antoine Chapu, 1833 - 1891 French), and with foundry mark "Thiebaut Freres Fondeurs Paris", depicting in high relief a seated classical maiden in mourning, mounted to a rouge marble stand, overall: 16" H x 9.75" W x 4" D, est:$1000/1500 Literature: A larger example illustrated: Berman, Harold. "Bronzes: Sculptors & Founders." Atglen, PA: Schiffer, 1994, Vol II, p. 405, fig. 1520. Provenance: Private Collection, Pasadena, CA. Condition: The bronze: 13.75" H x 8.25" W x 2.75" D. Generally good condition. With scratches, marks and rubbed wear to surfaces commensurate with age. Some spotting to bronze to right side of background.
