Two Indo-Persian paintings
The first: A two-sided calligraphied and painted book page depicting figures in a landscape, the painting presumably 20th century but the paper and calligraphy older, possibly as early as 17th century, unframed gouache and ink on paper; the second: an 18th or 19th century image of a standing saint, gouache and ink on paper laid to board with gilt highlights under glass, the first: image 10`` x 5``; paper 12.25`` x 7.25``. The second: image 5.25`` H x 3.25`` W, est: $600/900
Provenance: Private Collection, Pasadena, CA. Condition: The first: Minor toning and soiling throughout with a heavier area of soiling and staining along the lower edge. Some fine, scattered stable craquelure in the painting. Some scattered spots of tape and paper residue along the verso margin edge. Adhered to the front mat with paper tape in the four corners and along the upper center edge. The second: With four scattered areas of loss in the lower margin edge. A 1`` vertical scattered line of loss in the left center margin. A repaired tear, approximately 2`` in the lower left related to the losses. Possible restoration to the paint in the lower left.
