1034 A Louis XVI style Vernis Martin bureau a cylindre
Late 19th century, of mahogany with bronze inlay and gilt metal mounts, the galleried serpentine top of variegated pink, yellow and white marble, set over a cupboard door depicting cherubs, flanked by two shaped galleried shelves, over a cylinder with similarly decorated lid retracting to reveal a fitted interior and gilt-tooled slide-out green leather writing surface, over a long drawer with painted floral festoon front, on fluted circular tapering legs with capped toupie feet, with key, 58`` H x 30.5`` W x 18.5`` D, est: $3000/5000
Provenance: Private Collection, Los Angeles, CA. Condition: Oak secondary wood. Key functions in all locks. Vernis Martin panels with extensive crazing and scattered chips. A 4.5``-long horizontal shrinkage crack to left side drawer front, filled in and repainted. Scattered chips, losses, and shrinkage cracks to veneer. Some oxidation to bronze mounts.
