The Private & Personal Collection of Dr. Helga Wall-Apelt, March 23, 2015 in Fairfield, Maine
Dr. Helga Wall-Apelt’s Personal Asian Collection was approximately 60 years in the making. She is the daughter of a former prominent German physician and she, together with her father, escaped the Holocaust during World War II. After this traumatic experience, Dr. Wall-Apelt found great solace in the practice of meditation and his involvement in the Asian culture. His admiration, love and passion for the culture and their artistic items transmitted to his daughter, who while in medical school, began collecting Asian items. Dr. Helga Wall-Apelt eventually visited China to expand her knowledge in the art of acupuncture and ancient herbal treatments. For many years after she had a very successful practice utilizing Chinese healing techniques. In 1993, she moved to Sarasota, Florida and opened the Center for Traditional Chinese Medicines. Dr. Helga Wall-Apelt now spends the majority of her time in New York City and recently has made the very difficult decision to dispose of her vast personal collection that has meant so much to her throughout her life.
