A VERY FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF THE PECHERSKAYA- NERUKOTVORENNAYA MOTHER OF GOD, 19TH CENTURY. Here the Mother of God is enthroned with the Christ child on her lap, who delivers a blessing with both hands, while the Virgin rests her hands on the shoulders of Saints Antoniy and Feodosiy, both of whom kneel before her and hold prayer beads (chotki) in their hands. In the background are two angels of the Lord in attendance. The prototype of this image is said to have appeared by itself in the Great Dormition Church of the Monastery of the Caves in the year 1085. Probably a product of the Pecherskaya Lavra icon workshop. 10.5 inches x 7.9 inches (26.8 x 20 cm).
