A RARE RUSSIAN RELIQUARY ICON OF SELECTED SAINTS, 19TH CENTURY. The upper tier painted with full length images of four saints identified by the inscriptions above their heads as The Venerable Anthony of Rome, John the Forerunner, St. John Chrysostym, and the Venerable Peter of Murom. Below a recessed rectangular field with six wax-filled receptacles. The borders with saints Kharlampiy, Saint Stephen of Surozh, Paisius the Great and the Holy Great Martyr Barbara, and at top center the “Not-By-Hands-Made image of our Lord.” The entire image overlaid with a silver-gilt repousse and chased riza, hallmarked Moscow, dated 1875 and Cyrillic maker's mark AG. 12.25 inches x 10.25 inches (31 x 26 cm).
