EDWARD VII: (1841-1910) King of the United Kingdom 1901-10. D.S., Edward R & I, as King, at the head, one page, large oblong folio, Court of Saint James, 1st March 1905. The partially printed document is a diplomatic commission appointing John Bowring Spence to be Consul for the provinces of Dalmatia, Carniola and the Austrian Littoral and to reside at Trieste and grants him the power and authority to 'aid and protect Our Merchants and others Our Subjects, who may trade with, or visit, or reside. in the said Provinces and also to appoint Vice Consuls....'. Countersigned at the foot by Henry Petty-Fitzmaurice (1845-1927) 5th Marquess of Lansdowne, British Statesman, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs 1900-05. With a blind embossed seal. A manuscript docket appears to the verso, in German, dated at Vienna, 10th April 1905, signed by Count Agenor Maria Goluchowski (1849-1921) Polish Statesman, Minister of the Imperial and Royal House and of Foreign Affairs of Austria-Hungary 1895-1906.
