LONGFELLOW HENRY W.: (1807-1882) American Poet. A.L.S., Henry W. Longfellow, two pages, 8vo, Cambridge, Massachusetts, 23rd November 1880, to [James Russell] Lowell. Longfellow announces 'I take pleasure in introducing to you the bearer of this, Mr. Welling a gentleman of culture and, refinement, one of New York, now resident of Rhode Island' and continues to add 'Mr. Welling is about making a tour in Europe, and probably will visit London. He hopes to see you. Any civilities you may be able to show him, will be very grateful to…..'. A good letter of association between two of the New England writers known as the Fireside Poets. Very slightly irregularly torn at the left edge (evidently as a result of the removal of the integral leaf), not affecting the text or signature, VG
