GLAZUNOV ALEXANDER: (1865-1936) Russian Composer and music Teacher. He was the direct successor of most of the Group of five Russian composer´s legacy. Director of the Saint Petersburg Conservatory 1905-28, he left the Soviet Union in 1928 and never returned. His best-known student was Dmitri Shostakovich. A rare 8.5 x 11.5 signed and inscribed large card photograph, the image depicting the Russian composer seated in a half-length pose, playing his piano. Signed and inscribed by Glazunov in bold black fountain pen ink to a clear area of the image, stating `To the deeply sensitive and musical pianist, Liubov Nikolaevna Slavianova, from a sincere admirer of her talent and human qualities. Yours cordially, A. Glazunov.´ in Cyrillic, also dated beneath the inscription `Petrograd, 9th May 1917?´ in his hand. The photograph has been neatly affixed to a larger white card to an overall size of 11 x 14 (28 x 35.5 cm). Small overall, minor age wear, mostly to the edges, otherwise G to VG £800-1200
