BISHOP HENRY: (1786-1855) English Composer. Well-remembered for is most famous song `Home! Sweet Home!´. Bishop was the first musician to be knighted in 1842. A.L.S., Henry R. Bishop, two pages, 8vo, Cambridge street, Hyde Park, London, 12th December 1849, to Reverend Richard Mitchell. Bishop kindly requests his correspondent´s help to the bearer of his letter, an Oxford student, stating in part `Will you therefore do me the favor to facilitate his wishes with regard to his lecturing at Magdalen Hall, or afford him any information..´. Bishop was also a professor of music at the Edinburgh and Oxford universities. VG £100-120
