MASSOL EUGENE: (1802-1887) French opera Singer. Former Tenor and further Baryton. Creator of some of Halevy, Berlioz and Donizetti roles. A.L.S., `Ene Massol´, one page, 4to, Paris, 13th May 1846, to Paris Mayor, in French. Massol kindly requests his correspondent to withdraw him from the National Guard members, as he is retiring and states `I am not any more member of the Royal Academy of Music since I had my retreat last November 1st,..and I have did sign yesterday a contract with the Brussels Theatre..´.. With blank integral leaf. Small overall, minor age wear to the edges, otherwise G £80-100
During last Massol´s performance on 14th January 1858, took place the assassination attempt of Napoleon III by Felice Orsini. The Emperor and Empress were on their way to the Theatre, precursor of the opera Garnier, to attend the Rossini´s opera William tell.
